Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026
Maple One is a ride and connected-trip service for Northern Ontario, operated by Maple Canada Technologies Inc. (“Maple One”, “we”, “us”). To get you from your door to the bus, train or your destination, we need to handle some personal information, including where you are. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.
It applies to our website, the Maple One rider and driver apps, and any support or communication with us. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Ontario law.
1. Who is responsible for your information
Maple Canada Technologies Inc. is responsible for personal information under its control and has appointed a Privacy Officer who is accountable for our compliance with this policy. You can reach the Privacy Officer at support@maplerides.com.
2. Information we collect
From riders
- Account details: name, email address, mobile number, password and profile photo (optional).
- Trip details: pickup and drop-off locations, the stations or stops used on connected trips, booking times, routes, fares, transit tickets issued through the app, and ratings.
- Location: precise location while the app is open and during a trip, so we can pick you up and time your connection.
- Payment information: processed by our payment provider. We keep only a token, the card type and the last four digits.
- Preferences you choose to share, such as accessibility needs, car seats, luggage or a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
- Messages and calls with drivers (relayed through the app) and with our support team.
From drivers and applicants
- Identity and contact details, date of birth, driver’s licence and driving history.
- Background and driving-record check results, obtained with your consent from our screening provider.
- Vehicle registration, insurance, safety inspection and municipal vehicle-for-hire licence where required.
- Banking details for payouts, and tax information such as your GST/HST number where required by law.
- Location and trip activity while you are online in the driver app.
Collected automatically
- Device and log information: device model, operating system, app version, IP address, crash reports and how you use the app and website.
- Cookies and similar technologies on our website (see section 11).
From our website forms
When you send a message or start a driver application on this website, we collect the details you enter (such as name, email, phone, region and message).
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- match riders with nearby drivers and complete direct, first-mile and last-mile rides;
- plan connected trips with intercity and local transit, book transit fares where the carrier allows it, and move your pickup automatically when your bus or train runs late;
- calculate and charge fares, pay drivers, issue receipts and handle refunds;
- screen and onboard drivers, and keep their documents current;
- keep riders, drivers and the public safe, including investigating incidents and preventing fraud or misuse;
- provide customer support and respond to your messages;
- improve our routes, pricing and service areas using trip data that is de-identified wherever possible;
- meet legal, tax, insurance and regulatory obligations, including municipal vehicle-for-hire rules;
- send service messages about your trips and account. We send promotional messages only with your consent, as required by Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and you can unsubscribe at any time.
4. Location information
Rides cannot work without location. The rider app uses your precise location while it is open and during a trip. The driver app uses location while the driver is online. During a trip, your driver sees your pickup point and you see your driver’s live position.
You can turn off location permission in your device settings at any time. You can still type an address, but some features, such as live pickup tracking, will not work.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Between riders and drivers: first name, photo, rating, pickup and drop-off points, and the driver’s vehicle details and live location, for the duration of the trip. Phone calls and messages are relayed so personal numbers are not shown.
- Transit partners: when you book a connected trip, we share what the carrier needs to issue and validate your ticket (such as your name and the trip booked) with operators like Ontario Northland or a municipal transit system. Their own privacy policies apply to the information they hold.
- Agencies, municipalities and First Nations we work with: aggregated or de-identified demand data only, never information that identifies you.
- Service providers: companies that host our systems, process payments, run background checks, send texts and emails, provide maps, analytics and customer support, or provide insurance. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Business and employer profiles: if you ride on a profile paid for by an employer, hospital or campus, they receive the trip details needed for billing and reporting.
- Legal and safety reasons: to comply with the law or a valid legal request, to respond to an emergency, or to protect the rights and safety of our users, the public or Maple One.
- Business transfers: if Maple Canada Technologies Inc. is involved in a merger, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred subject to this policy.
6. Consent and your choices
By creating an account or booking a trip, you consent to the collection, use and sharing described in this policy. Where information is sensitive, such as background checks, we ask for express consent.
You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits. If you withdraw consent for information we need to provide rides, we may not be able to continue providing the service. You can manage marketing emails and texts from the unsubscribe link or in the app’s settings.
7. Where your information is stored
We store information in Canada wherever practical. Some of our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. We use contracts and safeguards to protect information wherever it is processed.
8. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. For example, trip and payment records are generally kept for seven years to meet tax and accounting rules, and driver screening records are kept while the driver is active and for the period required afterwards by law and our insurers. When information is no longer needed, we securely delete it or de-identify it.
9. How we protect it
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encryption in transit, access controls limited to staff who need the information, and monitoring of our systems. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
10. Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your account and personal information, subject to what we must keep by law;
- withdraw consent, as described above.
Send requests to support@maplerides.com. We will respond within 30 days and may need to verify your identity first. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
11. Cookies on our website
Our website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies: essential cookies that make the site work (for example, keeping you signed in to the admin area or protecting forms from spam) and, where enabled, analytics that tell us how pages are used in aggregate. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
12. Children
You must be 18 or older to create a Maple One account. Minors may ride only when an adult account holder books the trip and is responsible for them, in line with our Terms of Use. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services grow, for example when Maple Eats, Maple Care and other services launch. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
